Oh Scrap! : Catching up with the Blues from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

We have been having some very warm days so it has been a good time to stay in and sew.

It has been nice to get caught up on a few projects.

I have finished sewing together all of the Covered in Love blocks. That was my biggest accomplishment for the week. Now I just need to get them on the longarm and quilt them.

A few more blue Switchplate blocks were sewn.  These are made with five 1.5" x 3.5" strips.

I also finished up my blue Chaser blocks for June.

Looks like I need 14 more ...

Making your Positivity Blocks Scrappy from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

When I shared my first Positivity Blocks last Sunday, I said I would share how I make my blocks look scrappy.  It is really easy to do.

You can go to the Sew Preeti Blog to get the cut sizes and the block assembly instructions.

I am only making my background scrappy (but you could make all of it scrappy if you want -I was a bit worried it would chaotic.)

When you cut the light parts for your two blocks, make each piece a different low volume print (including the center square of ...

Oh Scrap! : Finally some Progress from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I finally found some time to get caught up on a few of my scrap projects.

In fact, I even started a new one!

I finished my last green letter B for my booth banner.  This was the RSC color for May.  Now I have THREE to make in Blue for June.  Yikes!!

(One lonely switchplate block was sewn this week too.  I need to cut some yellow centers for all the green strips I cut so I will just finish them this month.)

I finally got to my little pile of previously cut squares for my Bloom Mixology blocks ...

Positivity Quiltalong 2022 from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

In case you haven't heard yet, there is going to be another Positivity Quiltalong in 2022!

Pretti (Sew Pretti Quilts) and Bernie (Needle & Foot) are hosting this event and the quilts made will benefit Mercyful Quilt.  Pretti has put together a block tutorial that you can find here.

I plan on participating and will of course be making mine from the scrap bin in a rainbow of colors.

You can also participate by making and donating any quilt you desire.  But I will say the construction of the block Pretti came up with is very clever!

Sounds like there ...

Positivity QAL - Winners from Sew Preeti Quilts

We have come to the end of our journey.  This is the final stop in the Positivity QAL 2021.

It took many emails, phone calls, scribbles and scrawls, and test blocks.  There were a couple of disappointments but many pleasant surprises. My hope was a dozen new quilts for the Mercyful Hospital. Bernie tells me that we have 19.  So far.

From Janine (Quilts from the Little House)

From Mary (Quilting is in my Blood)

I know Diann's quilt is in progress. Joy is working on (at least) two quilts and quilting one flimsy received from Astrid. Mari is ...

The Positivity QAL - Finished Flimsy Linky Party from Sew Preeti Quilts

This blogpost is late but I have a very good reason for it...a very cute and furry reason :-)

Louie - our new fur baby

Meet Louie. We brought him home yesterday afternoon.  Louie's rescue dad is moving and could not take him along. We were only too happy to adopt him. The car ride was not fun for him and the thunderstorms did not help. He has been exploring his new environment and is a little skittish. We are getting to know him as he gets to know us.

Why yes, I live with two handsome males

The Positivity QAL – Link Up Number Two from Needle and Foot

Hello Everyone! I am happy to be hosting the second link up for The Positivity Quilt Along, hosted by Preeti of Sew Preeti Quilts. As you probably know, many of the quilts made during the QAL are destined to be donated to Mercyful Quilts. We are so thankful to Preeti for hosting this event and to all of you who have made, or are making, quilts for Mercy. I realize some of you have chosen to donate your quilt to a different organization and that is also wonderful! Your creativity, time and effort are hugely appreciated!

If you haven’t ...

Pretty Positivity from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

When I start a new scrap quilt, I never quite know how quickly they are going to progress.  A lot depends on the pattern and the availability of the appropriate scraps.

Even I am surprised at how quickly I finished my Positivity quilt!

I decided to go with gray, orange and turquoise for this quilt.  I had a large chunk of a gray that was gifted to me by one of my clients.  It was leftover from a backing.  When I get those generous gifts, I try and pay it forward and use those in my donation quilts.

The other ...

Oh Scrap! : More Plus Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This week was a busy one!  So there was not a lot of time available to sew.

But I did get nine more of my Positivity blocks completed.  These blocks used up the last of my gray background fabric so I also spent some time this week digging through my gray scraps so find some other fabrics to use for the last few blocks I need.  I have decided to make some blocks that will stand out much more than the rest and my plan is to scatter them about.

Maybe next week I will be ready to start laying ...

Oh Scrap! : Finally some time to Sew from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

We have had a beautiful Spring here in Oregon.  That means I have been spending lots of time outside digging in the dirt.  Last week, the weather cooled and the intermittent rain kept me indoors.  That means I finally had some time to sew!

First thing I accomplished was to turn some purple and blue pinwheel blocks into these cute blocks.

Here are what I have finished so far.  All of these pinwheels have been made from bonus triangles trimmed from making some flying geese blocks.  I think when I go to sew all the blocks together, I will use ...

Oh Scrap! : Time for Purple from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The RSC color for June is purple - my favorite color!

So the very first blocks I made in purple are my Well Suited blocks.  These blocks are made using one of my Scrap Mixology patterns.

Here is how all the finished blocks look together right now.  This quilt is going to look very different than a lot of the other quilts I made using the same pattern.  You can see some here and here.

I still need to finish my pinwheel blocks.  I am using the bonus triangles from the geese component to make these little cuties.  Hopefully I will ...

Hands2Help, 2021 Comfort Quilts from Baby Boomer Quilting Bee

It's that time of the year again .... sewing machines are busy completing comfort quilts for the 2021 Hands2Help Quilt Challenge, hosted by Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  This is my 11th year participating and I couldn't be prouder.

With the Pandemic, I have a feeling this will be the largest collection yet.   Visit the Hands2Help 2021 page on Confessions of a Fabric Addict for a parade of beautiful quilts.

------------

The six (6) quilts I donated this year, went to Emily, with Aunt Ems Quilts; for her charity Quilty Hugs for Happy Chemo.  A side note, Emily ...

Join Us from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Did you see the news that Preeti (over at Sew Preeti Quilts) is hosting a quilt drive for Mercyful Quilts?

You can certainly join me in the fun!

Preeti is sharing a free block tutorial and has designed up a bunch of different layout options.

I will be using scraps of course.  Scraps are always great for donation quilts.  And these blocks can easily be made entirely from scraps.

The first step for me was to look for what I call the "seeds" of a quilt.  Recently a longarm client gifted me a bunch of gray fabric that was left ...

The Positivity QAL with Sew Preeti from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Are you looking for a fun new project and at the same time donate to a great organization?

You want to check out the QAL announcement at Sew Preeti Quilts!

The QAL runs from may until the beginning of September so there is plenty of time to complete a quilt. I will definitely be participating.  I have donated quilts to Mercyful Quilts in the past and the quilt Preeti designed looks like a great opportunity to use up some scraps!

Plus, she will be offering the pattern for free and she has organized some giveaways for participating!  (If you aren ...

Positive Signs and NTT from My Quilt Infatuation

Oh. My. Goodness!  Somebody send me some wood so I can start building an ark over here.  We just cannot seem to get away from the rain for more than two or three days at a time, and this has been going on since the fall.  We did have two glorious days of sunshine this weekend and my parents were in town visiting, so my dad and hubs held up my latest quilt for some great photos.

I'm calling this one Positive Signs.  Obviously the crosses/plusses helped me decide on the name, but also, this is my first ...

Two more out the door from Art In Search

The past week had a lot of demand for comfort  quilts. I had to really hustle to finish them. The Cats Lattice left Tuesday. The Disappearing 4 patch left today, and the Plus quilt is leaving Tuesday. The quilts were kitted up with a tote bag, book, pocket quilt, card and bagged in an XXL zip plastic. I pray that they deliver their comfort to the recipients who surely need it. Hope I get a little break before another request pops in. I have plenty of tops, but they need quilting and kitting up. And my quilting has a lot ...
